Why We’re Here
While our blog is mostly intended for communication with family, friends, and supporters, we realize that many others visit this web site. So I think it’s a good idea to have a little information about the ministry itself right here in our blog. The following is an edited portion of the information on our mission’s web site. Additional information about Radio HRGS and our mission organization is available by clicking the link to Bible Basics International over on the sidebar.
Founded in 1990 and located on the island of Roatán, Radio HRGS beams clear biblical messages into the homes of the Bay Islands and northern Honduras — even reaching into Belize and Guatemala. Broadcasting on AM and FM frequencies from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, the Gospel message penetrates into hearts with the good news of salvation. Faithful biblical teaching encourages and stimulates believers. Beautiful Christian music stirs hearts and provides healthy, enjoyable listening.
Radio expands a missionary’s area of impact so that he can speak to thousands of individuals one on one. While radio is mass media, it is also a very personal vehicle for the Gospel. Each listener feels as if the speaker is talking directly to him. The witness pierces the private walls of homes where many hear who would refuse to listen if they were approached personally at home or on the street.
Bible Basics International’s task is to reach people with the clear Gospel message, lead them to faith in Christ, and help them to grow to Christian maturity. Radio HRGS fulfills that purpose by serving the needs of a concentrated area. By having local participation, we enhance the outreach of the Gospel and serve the needs of the community. Radio HRGS carries announcements of church meetings, weddings, funerals, and other items of interest to the people. Each year on Mother’s Day HRGS airs a special, extended Request and Dedication program during which several hundred requests flood the phone lines. Radio HRGS also broadcasts special public service announcements such as those on health and sanitation issues. People who do not normally listen to Christian radio listen to HRGS and hear the Gospel message because the station serves their needs.
Bible Basics believes in the local church and the staff of Radio HRGS works closely with Gospel preaching churches in the Bay Islands. In addition to station responsibilities, there are preaching and teaching opportunities and Sunday School. And, of course, there is no end of witnessing opportunities.
Roatán is one of the beautiful Bay Islands, about 30 miles off the north coast of Honduras. Some believe it is the island upon which the epic adventure Treasure Island is set! We do not know if Roatán is really Treasure Island, but we do know that the Bay Islands contain a veritable treasure of people for whom Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price! That is the reason that BBI is there preaching the unsearchable riches of Christ to those who need the Savior.
