Don’t Make the Trip and Miss the Adventure!

This is an unusual type of blog entry for me today and I’m including a different kind of video. While we were in Tampa this past spring, I had the wonderful privilege of giving the Sunday message at our home church, Candlewood Community. Since that was Palm Sunday, I wanted to deal with the subject, but not from a historical perspective. I strongly sensed that I should explore the personal significance to us today of Zechariah’s prophecy in chapter 9 — a prophecy that Jesus partly fulfilled when He made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, just before He went to the cross. I’d told one of my good friends about it beforehand and he asked if I could get him a recording. Sadly, the recording gear at Candlewood decided to go on the fritz that day so my friend didn’t get to hear it.

This past Sunday, I was preaching up at Oak Ridge and pulled that Palm Sunday message out of mothballs. I thought it would encourage them in their present situation. I removed the references to the holiday, and made the necessary changes to bring it home to our friends in Oak Ridge. Then I remembered that my friend had hoped to hear this message last spring, so I took along the camera and just set it up on the tripod, hoping it would give Chris the sense of what I’d said on Palm Sunday. So, here it is for anyone with 24 minutes to spare and an interest in why so many years have gone by between the fulfillment of verses nine and ten of Zechariah, chapter nine. No Power Point slides and no opening video clip to set the stage — just me, God, and His wonderful Word. Due to the length of the video, slow connections like mine will take a while before it starts the video after you click the play button.

Thanks Roy. It’s amazing when we remember what it used to be like not many years ago for missionaries to communicate with their loved ones back home. Wow!

I’m looking forward to seeing the results of Jesse’s work. He would impress me even if he was not my son. ;-)
