Well, so much for our plans for today. It was our day off and, after doing some industrial grade sleeping in, I had a project in mind. Every time we get a driving rain out of the west or north, we get water on the floor along the wall of our guest bathroom. Last week I found some stuff that you spread over the concrete to seal it, and today was going to be the day to put that on.
So, after eating breakfast and catching up on email, I went up to the shop to get the right angel grinder and a wire brush for it so I could remove the bubbling, blistered paint on the leaky part of the wall. By the time I was all set up, it was nearly lunch time. Mildred needed groceries up island and wanted to stop in at a furniture store that was having a sale, so I decided we should go get some lunch and run our errands before I made a mess of myself with the paint dust.
We wanted to go to the furniture store because we’ve been looking for about two years for a good place to store videos and a few other things. The store had a dresser that was just about perfect for our needs. It looked just the right height and length to fit quite nicely in front of our living room window. Then we learned that they also had a matching armoir. Both were half price, as was almost everything in the store. The upper part of the armoir would make good book shelves and the drawers at the bottom could handle all sorts of other stuff. We got so excited about getting more books out of boxes (where they have been for over two-and-a-half year!) that we wound up buying both pieces.
Before we bought the furniture, we went on to the grocery store and then came back to get the dresser. We brought that and the groceries home. (No root beer again!!! We are down to our last two cans.) On the way home with the dresser, I told Mildred, “Happy Valentine’s Day!” She replied, “Happy Valentine’s Day yourself.” So I guess we got our Valentine’s Day presents a little early. Travis helped me unload the dresser and then he went with me to get the armoir.
While we were in that area, Travis and I checked out a tiny little “ag” store that we’d been hearing about. We could not believe all the agricultural and pet stuff they had in there. Would you believe that they carry toucan food??? I never knew there was such a thing. Anyway, Travis found some medicine for their dog that cost way less than at other places. He also found some garden seeds that he thought would make Emily happy. My purchase was from a slightly different perspective. I got crab poison. The land crabs around here are getting out of hand and are undermining the foundation for our air conditioner.
Then we picked up the armoir and Travis helped me get it into the truck and then into the house. By that time, Mildred already had the dresser in place and the videos stored in alphabetical order. The living room is a little fuller now, but much better organized.
So, I never did get to that wall, but I guess I can’t complain.
