Audio Update – Week of September 7

by Jerry on September 7, 2009

Yesterday, I went to church down in Flowers Bay. Mildred didn’t go because her hives were really bothering her. More about that later. What was interesting was a story I heard from the pulpit. Pastor Felix was out of commission due to the flu, so a layman from Coxen Hole, Junior Allen, preached. He did a fine job, too. In the course of his message about the importance of sharing the Gospel, he said that he was in a taxi a while back and the driver was listening to HRGS. Junior asked him if he listened very much to HRGS. Yes, he did. Junior asked why he listened and he said that he loved the music. It turned out that the taxi driver was one of our unsaved listeners and Junior had the chance to give him a clear, face to face presentation of the Gospel. So the radio doesn’t only give the Gospel to the lost and teach believers, it sometimes provides witnessing opportunities for those who are strong in their faith.

I’m often humbled and amazed at the demonstrations of gratitude displayed by the islanders for the ministry of HRGS. We had two examples today within minutes of each other. I mentioned Mildred’s hives. She went back to the doctor today to see what else he had in his bag of tricks. I went along to talk about blood pressure medicine since my prescription is about to expire. While we were awaiting our turn, two young listeners spotted us and came over for hugs and kisses on the cheek. (That’s how the ladies greet here.) Then after we finished consulting with Dr. Raymond, Mildred asked how much we owed. No matter how we argued, he insisted we owed nothing. So we said, ‘Thanks,” and he said, “Thank you for what you do for me and my country.” Another lump in the throat moment. The encouragement we get from our listeners helps a great deal during those times when we put in long, hard hours, and so do your prayers. Thanks!

Now, here is the audio update.
