Getting Ready …

by Jerry on September 20, 2009

This will need to be a quick update. We are busy preparing for big stuff coming up this week. We’re getting ready for the arrival of Travis and Emily Mitten with their four daughters. They plan to be here at HRGS for several years at least and we are eager for their arrival. They are due to arrive this coming Wednesday. Their shipping container has cleared customs and tomorrow I hope to be able to get it delivered to their house so we can unload it. Please pray that they all adjust well to their new environment and responsibilities.

The next day we should be going back to the airport to pick up BBI’s new president Evan Drake as well as our Spanish director Sam Montoya and a family of three who will be on the same flight. Sam and Evan are here to speak in two of the local churches about the biblical family. The others are here to see what God has been doing in the islands through HRGS. They will only be here through the weekend, so please pray that they get an accurate picture during their brief stay. Also, pray for Evan and Sam that the meetings would be well attended and the people responsive.

So, with the six Mittens just settling in and five other guests to host we will have our hands pretty full in a few days. Not to mention the logistical details of getting a shipping container here and unloaded while keeping the radio on the air. Jim and Karen are a huge help.

Last week I mentioned (whined about?) the big mess on the grounds from a piñata party. This morning I had the opposite experience. There is a basketball tournament going on around here and yesterday they played a couple games on the court here. I went outside this morning and those guys had cleaned the place up spic and span!! I was thrilled. Then I spotted an iguana grazing in the grass back near our generator building, so I hurried home to get the camera. It was one of the biggest iguanas I’ve seen in a while other than the ones Sherman Arch keeps at his place up in French Harbor. Iguanas are protected here and have been nearly hunted to extinction except on Sherman’s property. Protected or not, the hunting goes on and they usually take off in a hurry when they notice you, but this one seemed largely unconcerned. It kept an eye on me but otherwise went right on about its business.

So, now it’s time to upload this and get dressed for church. Thanks again for your prayers.
