Just a quick note to let you know that all is calm here in Gravel Bay. (Even the wind is calm and it was already 82 degrees when I got up at 5:30.)
There have been protests on the mainland and there are overnight curfews. As a result, they canceled church last night in Coxen Hole. But otherwise, it’s business as usual except the feelings of uncertainty in the air.
The few press reports I’ve found continue to portray Zelaya as an innocent victim of an army coup. I just read a Reuters report that had that tone all the way to the last two paragraphs on a lengthy article where they finally noted that the army was acting on the instructions of the supreme court and has not taken over the country as they did many years ago. There is now a civilian president who is the constitutional next in line, sworn in by the elected congress.
We feel very secure in God’s arms. He knows the situation and has allowed this to happen for His own good purposes. We have thought about the possibility that we may need to leave in a hurry, but as things stand now, we see no reason for alarm – just concern for the welfare of this nation full of people who need salvation.
Well, now I need to get to work. We still have a story to tell to this nation. God bless – and thanks for praying for us.
