Audio Update – Week of November 16, 2009

by Jerry on November 15, 2009

The audio update is early this week. Our new family, the Mittens, have a lead on a vehicle that sounds like just what they need for their ministry here. But it’s located in Tegucigalpa. So, Travis and I are planning to fly there in the morning (Monday) to meet our friend Mario Guevara, who helped Travis find the vehicle. If all goes well, he will be able to buy it tomorrow and then we can spend some time there shopping. Things cost a lot less over there, so we can recoup some of our travel expenses by getting some things there instead of here.

The next part of the plan is to follow Mario to his house in Siguatepeque Monday afternoon and spend the night there. The next morning, we’ll plan to drive to La Ceiba and get the vehicle onto a ship to get it to Roatan. We hope to get all that done in time to catch the last ferry from La Ceiba to Roatan and not have to spend another night on the road. Please pray for us that the vehicle would be the right one, that we would have wisdom, and that God would give us safety. Tegucigalpa’s airport is notorious as one of the most challenging for pilots because it’s down in a bowl among the mountains and the runway is short. In our favor, though, is the fact that we’ll be on a small plane. We’ll be driving pretty much all the way across Honduras, so pray for highway safety, too.

Since we will not be here to record the update on Monday or Tuesday, Travis and I did it yesterday (Saturday), and therefore, you have it sooner than usual. I was hoping to get this posted today and also fix the pod casting feature that I broke a while back. It doesn’t look like I’ll have time for the pod casting fix this week though.

HRGS Update Nov. 16, 2009

Yesterday was pretty special around here. It was Mildred’s birthday. To give her a break, I did the Request and Dedication program. We only had 109 requests. That would have been amazing a year ago, but these days, it is a little ordinary. Of those 109 requests, 13 were for Mildred, which helped make her birthday a little more special.

Then, this morning, we had what I think was our first ever staff breakfast here at our house. Mildred made biscuits and sausage gravy. Jim Avella made pancakes and Karen brought fruit. Emily brought her large electric griddle for cooking the pancakes, the pancake syrup, and juices along with napkins and disposable cups. We all pretty much made pigs of ourselves. Then we all went down to West End for worship, followed by a baptism on the beach behind the church. I’m thankful that Jim had his camera along and let me use some of his pictures.
